For the first time, the students of the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of West Attica made a significant scientific contribution by participating in the 1st Multidisciplinary Student Conference of the Department of Occupational Therapy, titled ‘Occupational Therapy Science through the Eyes of Students,’ on Friday, June 9th, 2023, at the ‘Periklis N. Lytras’ conference center at the Egaleo Grove University Campus
The conference aimed to highlight the scientific identity of Occupational Therapy students, promote knowledge of Occupational Therapy as a science, disseminate information, and foster communication between the scientific community and society, with a primary focus on showcasing updated scientific knowledge.
The thematic sections of the conference covered various scientific branches of Occupational Therapy, such as the application of modern occupational therapy approaches, the management of new challenges in the profession, and occupational therapy interventions in the acute, subacute, and chronic phases for individuals across the age spectrum, all presented through evidence-based perspectives.
In addition to the academic sessions, the program included panel discussions and exchanges of opinions among students. The conference aimed, among other things, to promote the outward focus of the Department of Occupational Therapy by highlighting its collaboration with the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Western Macedonia, which was represented at both academic and student levels.
The conference was attended by prominent figures in the field of Occupational Therapy, as well as a significant number of healthcare professionals from related scientific fields. Participation far exceeded the organizers’ expectations, with nearly 400 attendees in person.
The students, many of whom volunteered to assist, joined forces to contribute to the organization and support of the conference in a warm academic atmosphere. They also guided and served the audience, transforming the 1st Multidisciplinary Student Conference into an incubator of ideas, communication, outward focus, and innovation.
The conclusion of the conference was marked by the presentation of awards for outstanding student presentations, aimed at enhancing and recognizing their scientific efforts. The promotion of the conference through national and local media outlets, as well as its coverage in the press and online, was also significant. This highlighted the importance of the event and underscored the need for similar academic initiatives.
The Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy, the student body, the Scientific and Organizing Committee, and the Hellenic Association of Occupational Therapists, with joy and gratitude, send this press release as a thank you message to all participants and contributors for the successful realization of the conference, with the promise of a future scientific event organized by the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of West Attica
